And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it. then they said to one another, "We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the kings household.
2 Kings 7: 8 & 9
"Do the right thing."
It's been awhile since I last shared any posts. The title of this final part of "why sit here until we die", is a challenge that I believe the Lord is calling to the Church. Myself, especially included. As I have shared before, I believe the Lord has called, and equipped me to do this website, and I have been negligent in doing so. But now is the time to answer the challenge, and "do the right thing", that which He has called me to do.
In the previous 3 posts in this series (please read again), I believe shows how , people, even christians, can fall into depravity, despair, and hopelessness, all because of sin. We see that God extends His Grace and Mercy, even when we doubt Him. His Loving Kindness, is intended to lead us to repentance(Rom 2:4). Also the importance of proper Faith, that requires action. How He uses situations, and people, that don't make sense, to the natural mind , and works all things together, for good.
Today's scripture exemplifies how The Lord works in this manner. The Lord spoke thru Elisha, and told Israel, that the Lord would provide relief from the famine. But His Word was met with doubt, by the king's messenger.
Here we see the four lepers , who were outside the city, who figured they had nothing to lose, because they would die either way, enter the Syrian camp. There they find the camp abandoned, and all the Syrian's possessions, left behind. They ate and drank, and carried silver, gold, and clothing out, and hid them, repeatedly. At this point, they seemed indifferent, or unaware, of the needs of anyone else, other than theirs.
We, even as Christians, can be as indifferent, or at the very least, unaware, as the lepers were. We need continually to have the proper object of Faith, Jesus Christ and Him crucified, to keep aware and focused.
Our proper Faith in His finished work on the Cross, positions us with Him, in right relationship with God. Relationship that grows our Faith, properly, based on His Grace. Grace that provides "every good and perfect gift". Salvation, healing, safety, provision, peace, joy, hope, and every other benefit of His loving relationship with us. The Good News of the message of the Cross.
The lepers realized they weren't doing what was right. They thought if they waited to share the good news of God's provision, that some punishment would come to them, so they went to tell the king's household. Our world today, is in such a confused, chaotic, demonically influenced state, all due to sin , distant from God. People in despair ,having a sense of hopelessness, blind to their need for a savior. But they are not without Hope, because Church,"while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us"(Rom 5:8). The lepers did what was right, motivated by fear. We have this loving relationship with Him, as His Children, all He asks is to have Faith in Him and share His Good News, with a dying world who needs Him. Our motive shouldn't be fear of some punishment, if we don't. It shouldn't be a sense of obligation, or something we have to do. If our desire is to please Him, we are motivated by our love for Him, to "do the right thing".
